ABOUT THE LILY OF FLORENCE

Red lilyThe lily has been the symbol of the city of Florence since the earliest times of its existence. First it was the symbol of the commune as white lily on red field, then, after the Ghibellines were defeated by the Guelphs it became a red lily on white field. In later times, it started to be represented as a golden lily on blue field, as in the image below:
